Fat Transfer Scottsdale
What is Autologous Fat Transfer?
It is the transfer of your own (autologous) fat from one area of your body to another. Deep wrinkles and furrows in the face are not necessarily caused by loose skin; they may actually be due to a loss of fat from under the skin and general facial volume loss (facial deflation). The actual technique is very physician dependant…not all plastic surgeons have mastered the technique, and many plastic surgeons do not have the three dimensional skill to sculpt the facial contours.
The most commonly treated areas for fat transfer include:
* Upper and lower lips – to increase the volume of thinning lips
* Chin, cheeks and jaw line – to improve facial contouring and definition
* Under and around the eyes – to correct hollow or sunken eyes and give the brows a lift
* Temple Region – to correct aging hollows of the temple
* Hands – To hide protruding veins and tendons
* Acne or trauma scars
* Entire faces can “fluffed” for a youthful glow
How many fat transfer treatments will you need?
Mid cheek, jaw, around the eyes and the forehead tend to respond very well to a single treatment. The mouth area does not respond as well to a single treatment session and usually more sessions are needed. Transferring your own fat to the top of your hands gives them a much more youthful look and allows you to present a total youthful appearance.
When Dr. Andrew Wolin does your fat transfer:
Dr. Wolin gets excellent results with the fat transfer technique that he has perfected over the last ten years. He has been asked to teach his techniques because of these unusually good results.
The harvest sight of your body is chosen very carefully; believe it or not, all fat is not equal. There will always be a small percentage of fat cells that do not survive the transfer, but Dr. Wolin takes this into consideration when he fills the area to be “fluffed”.
How is Fat Transfer done?
Fat is extracted from your body using a small sterile cannula and light suction. Next, the fat is cleansed in a centrifuge to remove the unusable portion. Then, using another small sterile cannula the fat is re-injected under your skin to fill or “fluff up” the desired areas. In order to optimize your comfort during the fat transfer procedure, both the harvest site and the site to be treated is anesthetized.
Is Fat Transfer permanent?
Yes, fat transfer is a permanent procedure and the fat cell survival rate is 60% to 70%. This is usually an adequate “fluff” but if more fill is desired additional fat can be added at a later date.
What is the down time?
You can usually resume normal activities (non-aerobic) immediately following your treatment. The most commonly reported side effects are bruising and swelling that cause mild discomfort and typically resolve within days.
